Why did I choose to be a therapist?
Leaving school with no clear direction or qualifications, like many people, I often felt that I had simply ended up in the jobs I found myself in. It took many years and several changes of path before I began to recognise a pattern: I felt most fulfilled when I was able to connect with people on a personal, human level.
Having spent many years struggling with my own mental health and sense of self-worth, it was through my own therapy that I slowly developed the self-belief and courage to pursue something I am truly passionate about. I hold a deep belief in the power of the “wounded healer,” as described by Carl Jung — that those who have known pain themselves carry a unique capacity to support others. I feel deeply humbled to be entrusted with my clients’ stories and to walk alongside them in their healing.
How do I work?
My approach is a relational one - rooted in the belief that every person is inherently worthy and capable of growth. I see therapy as a relationship built on trust, acceptance, and understanding, where healing happens not through judgment or quick fixes, but through genuine human connection. I aim to offer a warm, compassionate space where you can bring all parts of yourself - your struggles, fears, hopes, and everything in between.
I draw on Humanistic and Integrative theories, meaning I adapt my approach to your individual needs as a whole, complex person (think mind, body, spirit and environment) rather than fitting you into a rigid framework. At the heart of my work is our therapeutic relationship: a safe space for you to feel understood, believed, and supported through challenges as we explore your inner world and experiences. This usually includes exploring your past or childhood, as well as current experiences with the aim of understanding the dynamics within the context of your life and relationships.
To support this, I bring an awareness of how our histories, identities, and environments shape us. I work with openness, curiosity, and gentle challenge; striving to create a collaborative (and, yes, even sometimes humourous!) space where you can feel truly yourself.
What are my qualifications?
I am a BSc (Hons) graduate of the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in Nottingham as awarded by the University of Staffordshire. I have practiced with Nottinghamshire Mind as a volunteer counsellor and am now open for private clients. I have experience working with a wide range of difficulties. Some of these include, but are not limited to:
- Family Issues and Estrangement
- Autism & ADHD
- Depression & Anxiety
- Grief & Loss
- Suicidal thoughts
- Trauma (abuse, accidents/significant events, relational trauma)
- Low self-esteem
- Gender Identity
- Loneliness
- Workplace issues
- Mental Health diagnoses
Whether you're having difficulties with a specific issue, or are experiencing a more chronic feeling that something hasn't been 'right' for a while - counselling may help you make sense of things.
Above all, my hope is to walk with you as you deepen your self-understanding, reconnect with your strengths, and discover new possibilities for living more fully.
